Tools Day | Air Freshener

Let’s try a homemade Air Freshener.

A breath of fresh air, who doesn’t like that?

This is so easy to make and use and can lift your mood in your home and office setting.  And if you are anything like me you will soon have several of them around the house to use at any time.

Air Freshener | Tools Day

Air Freshener | Tools Day

Let’s start with the basic air freshener.

In a spray bottle combine:

  • White vinegar
  • 20-30 drops essential oils of your choice

Play around with the amount of essential oils you are using, some are stronger than others and some of our noses are more sensitive than others.

Here are just a few ideas of which essential oils to use:

Lavender  will help to calm the senses.

Peppermint will be more uplifting.

Rosemary has been proven to help concentration.

Lemongrass can help with those lingering cooking odors.

Most important is trying different options and learning what works best for you.  Maybe get really creative and mix a few oils together.

Is a hobby a waste of time?

Is a hobby a waste of time?

Is a hobby of waste of time?

Did you know that January is National Hobby month?  I didn’t.  January is normally the time of year we set New Year’s resolutions or new goals.  But this year I wanted to do something a little different.  I started thinking about ways to have more FUN.  And when I started to ask others what they did for fun, people mentioned all their hobbies.  Then I got the question what are your hobbies? I had a hard time answering this.

When I think of a hobby, I think of something you do for fun on a regular basis.  I take my dogs to the dog park for fun on a regular basis, but I don’t consider that a hobby.  I call friends for fun, but I don’t consider that a hobby.

I started to think I didn’t even know what a hobby actually was.  “Hobby is an activity done regularly in one’s leisure time for pleasure”, according to the dictionary.  A hobby is an activity you may complete in your free time that brings you pleasure.

Articles go on to describe some ideas of what hobbies are – collecting items, participating in a sport or activity or working on creative projects.

Further defining a hobby as “When you’re actively pursuing something outside of work hours, you’re participating in a hobby”. This got me thinking more about the things I enjoy and are they hobbies?  I definitely having trouble defining exactly what my hobbies are, I knew how I want them to make me feel.

I wanted to do something I enjoy and had fun with.  That fun could just be fun to me.  I was hoping that a hobby would stretch me or help me grow a little.  I wanted it to feel like a challenge but at the same time a mental break from the “work” and “daily life”, so I wanted to feel less stressed or overwhelmed when I was part of this hobby.  And for good measure, I am circling back around to having more fun!!

Now I know how I want to feel when I’m search for and being a part of a hobby.  I believe, like so many, in my pursuit of a balanced life I have neglected hobbies or things that truly bring me joy.  Watching children and dog play reminds me that play and joy and even hobbies don’t have to have the perfect structure of my calendared life.

I’m at the beginning of this journey of development and finding new hobbies, but come alone with me.  Let’s experiment and play.  Let’s find joy in things outside of work and if we want to create hobbies from them wonderful, if not, we tried them that’s great too!!

So, in honor of national Hobby Month, I encourage you to get out, do your hobby, create one, re-design one or rekindle one you had forgotten about.  There are so many benefits to having these activities outside of our norm.  You don’t even have to call it a hobby but find something that bring your pleasure outside of work and ENJOY!

Stay tuned as I start to find and share some of my new hobbies.

Annual Fundraiser!

Welcome to 100 Hours of Healing 2022!  This ongoing fundraiser launches each year on our birthday (Veterans’ Day) and continues through to the end of the year.  We are looking for new friends to support and empower our charitable mission:  fostering healing into wholeness through community, education, and treatments.

Whole Self Unity – What we DO

As a 501C3 nonprofit organization we rely on the support from our community to help adults in need.  Our focus is to allow access to integrative therapies as an additional to traditional medical care (meditation, yoga, Reiki, nutrition, and coaching).  Currently, we are raising money to provide free or low cost classes to veterans/military, first responders, educators, healthcare workers, disaster victims, and elders.  Please feel free to donate at any time–welcome to our community.

Join Us – We Need YOU

The primary goal of this year’s 100 Hours of Healing event is to make 100 new friends.  We are offering a full integrative healing conference online–no geographic or scheduling barriers.  Access content from your own space in your own time.  These offerings are gifts in exchange for your charitable donation of just $5.  The market value of these healing talks, demonstrations, meditations, and exercises would drive a retail price of $20-100 a session. We are offering these gifts as part of our service to the community.  We don’t want to price to stop anyone from connecting with us.

FREE Offerings for ALL

In fact, if you are not in a position to donate at this time, we want you to join the community anyway.  Follow this link to register for a FREE guided meditation Grounding: Feeling Present to Feel Better. All are welcome here, and we are so excited to have you join us!

In addition, some FREE content will be offered LIVE on our Facebook Page.  The program below lists all events according to the times they were promoted on Facebook.  However, each presentation is available whenever and wherever you like.  As the event continues, the program below will be updated with those offerings as well.  Happy birthday!

Influences of Food Choices – Moana Schwertsik  Health and wellness are two of the hottest buzz words in the nutrition industry. But what do those terms really mean and how do they relate to each other? There are numerous things that influence where a person lies on the spectrum of health, ranging from pathology to a state of optimal well-being.   One of the biggest components of a healthy lifestyle is nutrition. Just like a person’s overall state of health and wellness, food choices are greatly influenced by the world around us.  We will learn how to choose foods which will support out health and wellbeing.  It is time to make smart choices with our food and I will get you started on that path.

Hydration – Moana Schwertsik  Water constitutes a greater percentage of body mass than any other substance. It helps fill the spaces inside the cells, outside of the cells, and in all major vessels.  All the cells in our bodies contain and are surrounded by water, so having the right balance is very important. Adults can survive several weeks without food, but only a few days without water, because we cannot store water like we can store food.

Finding Your Life’s Purpose – Tracey Payton, we will walk you though an exercise on finding your life purpose, vision, mission statement.  Using simple fill-in-the-blank tool and a powerful guided meditation, by the end of this presentation you will have a complete reflection to help guide you to the next direction you desire.

The Many Dimensions Of Health And Wellness

The Many Dimensions Of Health And Wellness

Many different dimensions are involved in optimizing our health and wellness.

So much goes into our overall health, and yes, diet is definitely a huge part of that.   But there is so much more to consider.  This topic has  been contemplated for a long time.  The association between diet and disease has been investigated and reported for thousands of years.  The Greek physician and “father of modern medicine,” Hippocrates (460–370 BC), was perhaps one of the first scientists to recognize the connection between diet and health:

If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.  –Hippocrates.

And as one of my teachers stated: The whole constitution of man must be taken into consideration, not merely the treating of the body as a chemical or mechanical machine. – Dr Stone

That statement was a turning point for me, it made so much sense.  Of course food is top of the list, we cannot survive for long without it.  But looking at our overall health and wellbeing we need more to thrive.   Our mental and emotional health is important and well.

The definition of health is: A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.

Key factors to staying healthy are these six dimensions of wellness; emotional, occupational, physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual.  Therefore addressing all six dimensions in our lives builds a holistic sense of wholeness and fulfillment.  We have to remember that we are living beings and our journey through this life is continuously changing and evolving.  Wellness views health from a holistic perspective- mind, body, and spirit.   And as such all of these dimensions work individually, but also need support from each other.  Let’s dive a little deeper into these dimensions.

The many different dimensions of wellness are quite intertwined.

Our emotional wellness depends a lot on our outlook on life.  Are we being positive and mindful?  Are we beating ourselves up when negative emotions come up?  How is our relationship with food and our health?  How can we improve on our relationship with food?

What is called occupational wellness is considered what we do in life.  Are we enjoying our job?  Are we volunteering and enjoying the company we interact with?  Is there a personal satisfaction related to these activities?

Physical wellness encourages the balance of exercise, rest, nutrition, and mental-health.  Are we respecting the responsibility for taking care of our bodies, both physical and emotional?

Improving social wellness can also improve our emotional wellness.  Are we enjoying a healthy social network?  This can help give a positive outlook on life.

Intellectual wellness expands your horizon and will give us a sense of fulfillment in life.  Never stop learning and participating in activities.  This in turn supports your emotional and occupational wellness.

Spiritual wellness means having personal faith in something that deepens feeling of belonging and peace with oneself and the world.  Our spiritual wellness can be defined in terms of religious faith, personal values, ethical/moral beliefs.  Or simply a general acceptance of an underlying mind-body-spirit connection.  It helps to create a greater sense of meaning and purpose in life which enhances all other dimensions of wellness.

In conclusion, there is much each one of us can do to improve our health and wellbeing.  So many of these ideas mean that you have to tune in to yourself and trust your inner self.  Acknowledge what your body is asking for, it is usually right if we are honest.

Forget what is best for others,  be selfish here.  What is best for you is not best for the person next to you.  I am on my journey of the best well-being path I can be on for me.  And I understand that we all have a different path, but we can share our experiences and share our stories and with that help someone along on their journey.  I hope in some small way I could support you and let you know you are on the right path if you are trying something new, even if it something very small,  to improve your well-being.

If you want to learn more about me and my journey check out Whole Self Unity and maybe join me there to learn more about yourself.  You can also find different tools on our Youtube channel.

Wishing you a happy and successful journey.
